The story behind the story

The manuscript “Bookworms” was written for the contest. The idea to write a book in a form of a travel through the Ukrainian fairy tales, that I read, when I was a small girl, was so exiting that the work was completed literally in few weeks.

This story contains a lot of memories of my own childhood. The family described here was depicted from my own parents, brother and grandma.

Characters

The Onufriyenko family

The Onufriyenkos are the real “bookworms”. Dad loves to read the detectives and science fiction. Mom reads love stories and grandma prefers classics. Lera finds pleasure in reading fairy tales. And even the youngest in the family Sasha is into the adventure stories sometimes, though in general he is not much of a reader.

Lera Onufriyenko and Vasyl Holotchenko

These two are not just classmates. They are the best friends. Study in the fifth grade, share the passion for reading. Lera understands the magpie’s language. Of course, they get into the fairy tale adventures together as well.

His Royal Highness the Chief Bookworm

Meet His Royal Highness the Chief Bookworm. And we won’t say another word about him here as it is the major fairy tale secret! Hush…
